Rainfall and the water cycle in Australia

Activity: Click on the "Bureau of Meteorology - Rainfall tables" website and complete the following activity.

Enter "Victoria" as the state and "Port Phillip" as the area, select "one month" and find Melbourne Airport. Write down the rainfall for that month.

Repeat the process with "Victoria", "North East", "one month" and find Falls Creek. Write down the rainfall for Falls Creek. Falls Creek is part of Victoria's high country mountain range. 

Why do you think there is such a difference in rainfall amounts? What do you know about where rain is more likely to form after learning about the water cycle?
